grates
The series “grates” documents examples of urban trees and the human built structures that seek to confine or perhaps protect them. These photographs are combined with letterpress printed words which frame the image above and below. The words are compound words- words that hide within other words and when separated, suggest multiple meanings. Through a mixture of humor and seriousness this series reminds us of the bizarre conditions that we often impose on our more than human counterparts— conditions that we often look past without noticing.
