drainage and live
Two series of work: the first— “drainage” documents black plastic drainage pipes inserted along hiking trails in Forest Park (Portland). In each case, plant life has begun to absorb and overtake the pipes. The intervention by humans to convenience hikers is being consumed by plant life. The black plastic however will outlive anything alive, remaining for eternity lurking within the mud and roots of the forest. The texts in this set function not as captions (though they relate to this tradition) but as content that performs in parallel to the imagery creating dialogues, narratives and tensions between layers of possible meanings/readings.
The second group of work— “live”, shows interactions between the roots of large urban trees and the concrete/human-built structures that are intended to contain and surround them. The series shows the push-pull relationship between the trees and the human created barriers. Over time, both the roots and the built structures are changed by the presence of the other.
